let’s talk sauce…
That’s where Breckenridge 9600’® started. Like many beginnings my sauce was popular with family and friends as a holiday gift, during dinners parties, camping, etc. They began asking where they could buy the sauce. It wasn’t until 2013, living less than one mile from the Breckenridge Distillery, I began incorporating their wonderful award winning bourbon and as they say, the rest is history.
Through a wonderful friend I met Litch who would unknowingly become my connection to the Breckenridge Distillery many years later.
I started concocting BBQ sauce recipes – this process took some trial and error to really perfect the sauce’s unique flavor. Chemistry and math were never my strong suits hence the trial and error.
I dreamt of one day actually selling BBQ sauce. In order to get more feedback BBQ sauce was a very popular holiday gift for some time. The homemade label was “Renée’s Hot Stuff”…more positive feedback – Yeah! Some of my girlfriends told me when they went on business trips they had to hide their sauce bottles from their men so they would have sauce when they returned home.
- Litch is back in the picture when I almost ran him over in the post office parking lot. We talked about his involvement with the Breckenridge Distillery and if there may be an opportunity to incorporate their bourbon in my sauce…and hopefully sell it.
- After more trial and error I hatched a great recipe using the Distillery’s bourbon – Wow, what a super aroma! and the flavor was even better.
- I nervously spoke with Litch to set some time for him to taste the sauce…he wanted the staff at the Distillery to taste it as well – the heat was on! Yikes!
- I cooked a smorgasbord of items; roasted chicken, grilled pork, brisket, grilled tofu, veggies, shrimp and kielbasa, for the Distillery staff – who can give a bad review while they’re eating home-cooked food? The response – they loved the sauce –Yeah! The Breckenridge Distillery agreed to sell my sauce in their tasting room, distillery showroom and on their website.
